Sovereign Day

Amid the clamor of children playing all around
I happened to glance out the window at twilight
at the southering sun crowning the day,
his purpureal robe and crimson garments
splayed across the darkening sky.
And for just a moment, the noise of life faded
as I was transfixed by the regal display.
A gasp of wonder escaped my lips
before I knew my surroundings again...

...the moment had passed.

Laughter of children returned to hold my thoughts
while the sovereign day yeilded to night.
